O Canada!

1st July, 2012 By: Cath

Canada Day Cupcakes from Cath's Cookery Creations! | www.cathscookerycreations.comA long time friend of the hubby is from Canada and kindly enough invited us to their Canada Day celebrations.  Of course this means I found the perfect excuse to bake.

Given the colours of Canada, I had to make red velvet cupcakes.  With my Magnolia Bakery recipe in hand, I made a couple of batches of cupcakes in both red and white cupcake liners.

I wanted to do something a little extra for the occasion and after a hunt I found some labels that were created by Polkadot Prints which were definitely the best labels I found during my search.  The instructions on the labels suggest to use a 2″ circle punch but I was only able to find a 1.75″ punch, but they were the perfect size for the cupcakes in the end.  I printed the labels on plain paper, and bought some red and white card from the local scrapbook shop.

It was pretty simple, so I did not take photos along the way (well that and I didn’t really think of it).  I cut the card and the labels with the craft punch, and using sticky tape I stuck a toothpick to the card.  I then used my glue runner to put a couple of spots of glue on the card and then put the Canada Day label on top, hiding the sticky tape and top of the toothpick.

Once the cupcakes were iced, I inserted the toothpicks into the cupcake and they look rather cute if I do say so myself.

Wow, what a beautiful array of festive treats!  We moved to Canada from the U.S. last year.  So far we like it, though we will miss celebrating the 4th of July with fireworks. Are you located in the U.K.?

I am actually in Australia Julia. The spread was absolutely scrumptious and I got to try some amazing Canadian food. Hopefully you found some Canadian Day celebrations to help you miss the 4th of July celebrations a little less. Thank you for stopping by!
